Visualizer for SoundCloud

Is there a visualizer for SoundCloud on Mac?

Not built in: SoundCloud shows a waveform of each track, but it's a picture of the whole track for seeking and comments, and it doesn't move with the music. On a Mac, SoundCloud is the website, or the website installed as an app. To get visuals that follow it, use a browser extension or an app that listens to the Mac's sound. Vibresia, which we make, does that for free.

The waveform isn't a visualiser

SoundCloud's waveform is drawn once for each track: you click along it to jump, and comments sit at the moment they're about. It's useful, but it shows the shape of the whole track; it doesn't react to the music as it plays.

SoundCloud's Desktop Player is the website installed as an app from Chrome, Brave or Edge, so visualisers for it are browser extensions that draw on the web player. An app that hears the Mac's system audio works with the Desktop Player, the website and everything else.

How to get visuals for SoundCloud on a Mac

Vibresia is a free Mac app that listens to the Mac's system audio, so it doesn't need SoundCloud to support it. Install it, allow it to hear system audio the first time it asks, and play something in SoundCloud. The visuals follow the music straight away: it picks out the beat, the bass, mids and treble and the tempo on the Mac, and nothing is uploaded.

It has 18 built-in scenes, and Auto Scan moves between them on the beat. If you want something of your own, a scene is a single GLSL function, or you can describe one to an AI assistant and have it written for you. It needs macOS 14.2 or later, Apple silicon.

Why system audio is the way to do it

A visualiser built into one music app only sees that app. Apple's own visualiser is a good example: it only works with songs playing in the Music app. Listening to the Mac's system audio instead means one visualiser works with SoundCloud, with every other music app, with a browser tab and with a film, and keeps going when you switch between them.
